Why work for DVT?

Carlie Griebenow, HR/SQA Intern at DVT tells her story:

April 2011

"DVT was founded in 1999 by Chris Wilkins and Clive Hubbard, as a small software development company. Today DVT is black empowered, has over 100 clients, 240 staff, two offices with a new division, DVT International,  opening a 3rd office in India.

DVT's core function is software development, business analysis, project management, BPM, CRM, professional services and supplementary resourcing, and specialist software consulting.  DVT offers a comprehensive range of services across the entire software development lifecycle. DVT is also a Microsoft Gold certified partner and specialise in .Net and Java technology.

DVT's clients include blue chip companies such as Woolworths, Truworths, Vodacom, JP Morgan, Santam, Old Mutual and Pick n Pay.

Chris Wilkins, the CEO, is a strong leader yet very approachable. He is down to earth and has an open door policy. This certainly also applies to the entire management team.

Chris is very interested in his staff. As an example, over 80% of DVT staff work offsite yet Chris visits everyone for a formal chat once every two months.

DVT is not your typical corporate environment. There is no bureaucratic red tape which you tend to find at most companies our size. It is a very relaxed working environment. The offices are also very beautiful and include a fish tank, plenty of plants and inspirational quotes on the walls.

I started about two months ago. For me, the best thing about working at DVT has been the cappuccino machine. No, I am just kidding. It took me about four months to find a job after university but it's definitely been worth the wait. Working has been so much better than what I expected. DVT has really become a home away from home.

It's been a great learning experience. Everyone is very friendly and willing to help in anyway that they can. It is true what they say - the right people make the difference.

DVT is a very unique company. They are willing to invest in people and help them reach their career aspirations in any way that they can.

They have lots of trust in their employees.  For example, everyone works flexi-time. This means that you can you choose when you start and end work as long as you worked the required hours each day. This trust gives employees a sense of freedom.

There are a lot of opportunities to relax too. There is a pool table and a Nintendo Wii in the office lounge. DVT also arranges various events such as hikes, sporting activities, team meetings and so on. DVT is a very social company where colleagues become friends and everyone gains a sense of belonging.

You will also never go hungry at DVT because there is a fully stocked kitchen. You will always find food like cheese, bread, fruit, cereals and even hot chocolate!

I asked some of my colleagues what there favourite thing about DVT is. Here are some of the funny things that they said:

-"the sexy young interns"

-"free Facebook"

-"the plastic access tags used to enter the building"

-"free food"

-"soft toilet paper"

-"free booze at quarterly functions"

-"located right off Kloof Street close to lots of shops"

But all jokes aside, DVT really is a great company to work for and I will recommend working for DVT to anyone."
